Max Richter announces new album & world tour, shares “Movement, Before All Flowers”

Composer and purposeful sleep-inducer Max Richter has announced his new album and a world tour. In A Landscape will be out September 6 via Decca. It’s the first record he’s made at his Studio Richter Mahr, the “minimalist, eco-conscious creative retreat” Richter co-designed with his wife, visual artist Yulia Mahr.

“For me, the music on the record is about connecting or reconciling polarities,” say Richter. “The electronics with the acoustic instruments, the natural world with the human world, and the big ideas of life with the personal and intimate. This is a dynamic I started to explore in my 2004 record The Blue Notebooks, and the new project shares many of that album’s concerns; in a way this record is another look at the themes of the earlier work, but from the perspective of our world and our lives in 2024.”

You can get a preview of In a Landscape via the very pretty, very Richter-esque “Movement, Before All Flowers” which closes the album. Watch the video below.

As for his tour, Max will be performing material from both In a Landscape and The Blue Notebooks, accompanied in North America by the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME). That tour doesn’t hit North America till spring 2025 and the NYC date is at BAM’s Howard Gilman Opera House on May 3.

Tickets for North American shows go on sale Thursday, June 6 at 10 AM local time, with presales starting June 4 at 10 AM local. All dates are listed below.
