Jeff Mills expands Axis Records to jazz, classical and film soundtracks

Jeff Mills has announced his label Axis Records will actively expand into classical, jazz and film soundtracks this year.

The techno great launched Axis in 1991, and states that “for almost 30 years,” the label has touched on “classic and jazz, Afrobeat but also other cultural disciplines like cinema, art [and] contemporary dance.”

Beginning this fall, he says, “Axis Records will expand its musical scope in the areas of classical, jazz and film soundtracks,” while keeping up its normal pace of techno releases.

The letter lays out forthcoming Axis releases from Byron The Aquarius, jazz fusion outfit Spiral Deluxe (Gerald Mitchell, Jeff Mills, Kenji Hino, Yumiko Ohno), the classical violinist Mari Samuelsen, the drummer Lil John Roberts, Jean-Phy Dary, Sindata OM, Amp Fiddler and Detroit techno pioneer Eddie Fowlkes.
