Waxahatchee played Brooklyn Paramount with Good Morning (pics, video, setlist)
Waxahatchee recently began her tour supporting her fantastic new album Tigers Blood, and on Saturday (4/27) she stopped in NYC for the first of a few area shows she has lined up, at Brooklyn Paramount. The stage setup for this tour has her standing on a little platform, festooned with lights, center stage, with her fantastic band (including Spencer Tweedy on drums, who also contributed to the album) arrayed around her, and all of them in front of a three-hubbed, light-up backdrop. Taken together it, it reminded me of a stage that a classic country star may have played on, which makes it also pretty perfect for Waxahatchee’s most recent, country-soaked work.
For Saturday night’s show, she stuck mostly to material from Tigers Blood (which she played all of, but not in order) and 2020’s also-fantastic Saint Cloud, plus a few songs from I Walked With You a Ways, her great 2022 country album with Jess Williamson as Plains, and in the encore, a Great Thunder song, “Chapel of Pines.” See her setlist, and a few attendee-taken video clips, below.
Good Morning opened the show (and this leg of the tour), and Waxahatchee invited them out to join in on the final song of the main set, Tigers Blood‘s title track. See pictures from the whole night below.
Waxahatchee’s tour returns to NYC in the summer for a show at Beacon Theatre on August 28, and there’s also an Asbury Park, NJ show a few days later on September 1 at Stone Pony Summer Stage, which is with Snail Mail and Tim Heidecker.
