Tyler Childers, Sylvan Esso & Kermit the Frog played Madison Square Garden (night 2 pics, video, setlists)

Tyler Childers‘ tour supporting his 2023 album Rustin’ In The Rain hit NYC a night earlier than expected when the show originally scheduled for tonight (5/30) was moved to Tuesday night to make way for the Rangers’ Eastern Conference Finals game against the Florida Panthers. That meant the two-show run with Sylvan Esso wrapped up on Wednesday night (5/29) instead, bringing lots of people decked out in their western best to MSG on both nights. Childers’ cozy stage setup brought to mind a living room, and he was accompanied by a 7-piece backing band that really brought his songs to life, running the gamut from country crooning to full on Allman Brothers-style jams.

Childers brought out Kermit the Frog for an acoustic take on “Lady May” followed by a full band rendition of The Muppet Movie‘s “Movin’ Right Along” on both nights, and he also covered (as he often does) Kenny Rogers & The First Edition’s “Tulsa Turnaround” and Hank Williams’ “The Old Country Church” (which appears on his 2022 album Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven). Night one also got a cover of tourmate S.G. Goodman’s “Space and Time,” and night two a rendition of the oft-covered “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain.” See both nights’ setlists, along with pictures from night two by P Squared and attendee-taken video, below.
