The Go! Team played ‘Thunder, Lightning, Strike’ & more @ Irving Plaza w/ La Sécurité (pics, video, setlist)
The Go! Team‘s debut album, Thunder, Lightning, Strike, turned 20 in September, and the band are celebrating by playing it in full on tour. They hit NYC on Friday night for a spirited show at Irving Plaza. The crowd was ready to celebrate, too, and The Go! Team brought the party; between vocalist/rapper Ninja and bandleader Ian Parton (who switched instruments a lot, including a lot of time behind a second drum kit), energy levels were at max. Thunder, Lightning, Strike‘s mix of twee indie and hip hop has held up well, and they finished of the album set with Ninja crowdsurfing as the band played “Everyone’s a VIP to Someone.” The Go! Team came back for another seven songs and closed the night with one of their best, “Apollo Throwdown,” from 2011’s Rolling Blackouts. Fun show.
Priming the audience were Montreal’s La Sécurité, who were probably not that well known to the crowd but had won them over by the time they played their new single “Detour,” their first release since signing to Bella Union.
