Matthew Sweet played City Winery on first tour in 4 years (pics, setlist)
Power-pop great Matthew Sweet is on is first tour in four years and hit NYC on Thursday for a show at City Winery. This time out his band included The Bangles‘ Debbi Peterson on drums, with regular side-men Paul Chastain (Velvet Crush) on bass and John Moreman on lead guitar, plus “the new kid,” Adrian Carter, on acoustic and backup vocals. It was a packed house and an adoring crowd as Matthew mixed classics like “Girlfriend,” “Divine Intervention,” “Winona,” “Evangeline,” “Sick of Myself,” and more with very funny anecdotes, like the one time he ran into Brian Wilson in a studio bathroom.
Abe Partridge opened the show — Adrian Carter backed as well – and photos from the whole night by P Squared and the setlist are below.
Matthew Sweet plays Jersey City’s White Eagle Hall tonight (4/19) with Partridge, and from there heads to DC, Cincinnati, and Plainfield, IN. Dates are below.
