David Lynch’s cause of death revealed

Following the sad news that he’d passed away at age 78 last month, David Lynch‘s cause of death has been revealed. TMZ reports that his death certificate from the LA County Dept. of Public Health lists his immediate cause of death as cardiac arrest, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as the underlying condition, with dehydration as a contributing factor.

Lynch, a lifelong smoker, had also been diagnosed with emphysema, which he he revealed last year, saying that he could no longer leave the house without losing his breath. He’d been forced to evacuate from his home during the Los Angeles wildfires, a source told Deadline, at which point his condition worsened.
