Ozzy Osbourne’s Iconic ‘Bat Throne’ to Join Birmingham Museum Exhibit

Ozzy Osbourne’s signature bat-shaped throne, a centerpiece of his final concert, is set to be featured in a special museum exhibit in Birmingham, England. The display, titled “Ozzy Osbourne Working Class Hero,” honors the life and enduring career of the legendary metal icon at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.

The exhibit, which has been running since last June, was originally launched to coincide with Osbourne’s “Back to the Beginning” farewell performance. Due to popular demand, the museum has extended the run of the collection until September 27. The throne will officially join the exhibit on July 1.

The collection offers a comprehensive look at Osbourne’s journey, featuring a wide array of memorabilia, industry accolades, and platinum records. It also highlights his transition from his humble upbringing in Birmingham’s Aston neighborhood to his status as a global heavy metal pioneer.

Reflecting on the addition of the throne, Sharon Osbourne shared in a statement, “As we approach the one-year anniversary of Back to the Beginning, it feels fitting that Ozzy’s throne, which has now become synonymous with his final performance, would be placed in the museum, where it can be seen by the fans who loved him.”

The gothic throne, characterized by its striking bat-head design and wings, became a vital part of Osbourne’s stage presence in his later years. He first utilized the chair during the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. The throne provided necessary support for the artist as he navigated significant health challenges, including a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis in 2020.

Osbourne’s final live performance took place on July 5, 2025, at Villa Park in Birmingham. The historic event featured a career-spanning set that included his work as a solo artist and his legendary tenure with Black Sabbath. The concert served as a monumental send-off, featuring appearances by Metallica, Jack Black, Tom Morello, and many others. The music world mourned the loss of the Prince of Darkness just weeks later, on July 22, 2025.
