The Whitlams Announce ‘Return to Rock Island’ 2026 Australian Tour
The The Whitlams are set to return to their roots this October, announcing the “Return to Rock Island” tour. This nine-show East Coast run marks a significant shift for the band, moving away from the formal atmosphere of their recently concluded Orchestral ’26 tour to embrace a more intimate, high-energy pub setting.
Frontman Tim Freedman described the upcoming dates as “wildly different” from their previous orchestral performances. “We’re hitting our favourite pubs in October for something wildly different to Orchestral ’26,” the band stated in a release. “Come and enjoy our raucous side, with William Crighton and his band opening all dates. Return to the Metro, the Triffid, the Corner… woohoo.”
The tour kicks off on October 2 at the Hotel Brunswick in Brunswick Heads, followed by stops in Coffs Harbour, Melbourne, Sydney, Wombarra, and Brisbane. William Crighton and his band will serve as the opening act for the duration of the tour.
Formed in Newtown, Sydney, in 1992, The Whitlams rose to prominence with their signature inner-city piano rock. Their 1997 breakthrough album, Eternal Nightcap, achieved triple-platinum status in Australia and earned the band significant critical acclaim, including ARIA Song of the Year for “No Aphrodisiac.” Throughout their career, the band has maintained a dedicated live following, a legacy they look to celebrate during this upcoming 2026 run.
