fantasy of a broken heart’s 10 favorite albums of 2024
NYC’s fantasy of a broken heart released their debut album, Feats of Engineering, back in September, and they told us more about it in our profile on them in the new issue of the BV Digital Magazine. As 2024 winds down, we also asked them about their favorite music of the year, and Bailey Wollowitz and Al Nardo each picked five albums they love. Read their lists, and their commentary, below.

AL NARDO OF FANTASY OF A BROKEN HEART’S FAVORITE ALBUMS OF 2024
Crumb – AMAMA
This album feels like a huge inspiration for what a band can do beyond the limitations of “rock music” in 2024. You see Crumb, and they are a band that rocks. But this album defies the tropes of making music as A Band. It’s full of slippery dance grooves and hooks, confessional lyrics tucked into spacious moments of ambient chilling. Nice.
@ – Are You There God? It’s Me, @
I love the way this record expands the universe of @. The EP, following their debut album from last year, introduces a more digital sound palette into their progressive pop songwriting. The tone is playful. They know exactly what to do with genre blending, tension and release. The tension makes the sweet moments so much sweeter.
Geordie Greep – The New Sound
I had a transcendent experience watching the Geordie Greep band perform during their New York residency, flying in blind after the release of “Holy, Holy”. The band was in top shape, like jazz Steely Dan with Geordie normalizing this twisted batch of songs. Sexy depraved masterful insanity. Welcome back, Charles Bukowski.
Starcleaner Reunion – Café Life
Café Life is a peek into Starcleaner’s luscious pastoral world. Jangly pleasing rockband EP, it really relaxes me to listen to their music. It conjures up the feeling of a soft breeze, or the beauty of drinking a unique beverage.
Kassie Krut – Kassie Krut
Sunglasses on in the club. I’m walking around, I’m the main character.
BAILEY WOLLOWITZ OF FANTASY OF A BROKEN HEART’S FAVORITE ALBUMS OF 2024
Being Dead – Eels
With all sincerity in my heart I think Being Dead is the best rock band of the last couple years. Every song is a burner. The vocals are truly something special. Production and harmonies and quality of the singing. Falcon Bitch has one of the coolest voices ever. It’s just really good music by really good people. Love!
Mundo Video – Noite de Lua Torta
We had the blessed experience of playing in São Paulo last month (with WFYE) and shared a bill with these guys. Sweetest people. We were giddy during their set.. it was so sick. The music is often approaching every genre at once but really rooted in beautiful guitar playing. High tempo. Like if Allan Holdsworth was in 100 gecs?
Andy Loebs – Cercopithecoid
This just came out and I’ve been jamming it a bunch. Instrumental, really thoroughly arranged but consistently light. There’s a specific emotion carried by music that exists entirely in the MIDI or like iconic Yamaha preset sound palette. Nostalgic but futuristic, a sort of private digital playground. It’s a really beautiful record and the last song is called “Music Festival” which is awesome.
Allegra Krieger – Art of the Unseen Infinity Machine
I’ve heard multiple people describe Allegra as “the undisputed best songwriter in NYC” and it’s totally true. I spent a lot of time with her last record through the recommendation of my friend Sammy Weissberg who did some arrangements on it. This one is a bit more rocking and uptempo at times and it’s so straight to the dome good. My number one track is “Into Eternity.”
Fievel Is Glauque – Rong Weicknes
I have had to take special attention to not let myself get destructively absorbed in Rong Weicknes. It’s the album for me this year. The itch is scratched.
