Faraquet’s Chad Molter preps debut LP as Whisper States (hear a song), playing free NYC show w/ Mary Timony
Chad Molter, who you may know from Dischord band Faraquet and Medications, is currently making music as the decidedly more mellow Whisper States. He’s just announced the project’s self-titled debut album, which will be out September 6 via Joe Wong’s Trap Set International label.
“I wrote these songs at a time in my life when I was winding down 12 years of very intense work at a homeless shelter,” says Molter. “I hadn’t planned to make an album; I found myself writing as a way to unpack the many experiences I had there. The memories of thousands of people I encountered during those years appear in these songs. Ultimately, this record is a tribute to the many beautiful people who are unlucky enough to find themselves without housing in one of the richest nations in the world.“
The first single from the album is its opening track, “Death in the Country,” a lovely, hushed folk-rock song that floats lightly on the breeze. Listen to that below.
Whiper States will play a free show this Sunday afternoon (7/21) at Union Pool as part of the venue’s Summer Thunder series. Mary Timony headlines and Chad also plays in her band. Doors are at 2 PM and things wrap up at 6 PM. Check out the flyer below.
