Relix turning 50, partying at Brooklyn Bowl w/ members of Phish, Grateful Dead, Vampire Weekend, Dr. Dog, Real Estate & more
Relix Magazine, which started as Grateful Dead taper fanzine but soon grew to include what is now the jam band scene, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a big party at Brooklyn Bowl on January 15. (Brooklyn Bowl owner Peter Shapiro is also Relix’s publisher.) The show is presented by Taper’s Choice, the band made up of Dave Harrington (DARKSIDE), Alex Bleeker (Real Estate), Chris Thompson (Vampire Weekend), and Zach Tenorio-Miller (Arc Iris), and joining them on stage will be a pretty impressive lineup of guests.
Those guests announced so far include late ‘60s era Grateful Dead keyboardist Tom Constanten, Phish‘s Mike Gordon, harpist Mikaela Davis, Guster frontman Ryan Miller, Dr Dog‘s Eric Slick, Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Robert Walter (Greyboy Allstars), woodwinds maestro Stuart Bogie, bass maestro Karina Rykman, and more.
Before the live show, tunes will be spun by DJead Night, featuring Conrad Doucette from Day of the Dead (and Takka Takka) and Scott Devendorff of The National, and after the show DJ Logic will keep things going even later. Tickets are on sale.
The Brooklyn Bowl show is the start of a short tour for Taper’s Choice, which includes a sold-out show at Tubby’s Kingston on January 16, as well as dates in Philly, DC, LA, Denver, and more. All dates are listed below.
