• Great vocal cover from JD Davis
• House-focused layout
• Built around the original’s bassline
A fresh collaboration has emerged in the wild involving Oliver Heldens & DJs From Mars. An interesting synergy, as DJs from Mars have made a solid reputation for specializing in mashups in the EDM industry and teamed up with several reputed artists in the process.
Not to mention Oliver Heldens, who has also repeatedly donned the darker alias of HI-LO and steadily gained a sizable following and admiration in the Techno scene. Although he hasn’t slowed down with his breakthrough moniker as well, recently collaborating with electro-pop starlet Kylie Minogue on “10 out of 10”.
Continuing paying homage to the golden decade of the 80s with modern twists, “Blue Monday” follows the viral “Turn Me On”, which sampled the Yazoo. Now, the collaborators set their sights on the definitive classic from the pioneering years: “Blue Monday” from New Order.
Infused with the signature house blend expected from the “Gecko” creator, the track is spiced up by the veteran vocalist JD Davis’ impeccable cover of the post-punk hit. Taking a more mainstage setting, the production retains what made the original so memorable: the undulating techno-pop bassline, building the track around this central element. And thanks to the creative range of those involved, the results are amply effective.
There have been several takes on New Order’s piece de resistance, and Oliver Heldens and DJs from Mars didn’t fail to construct a standout yet redeeming rendition for today’s crowd to enjoy!
