Alok & ÜHÜ – Surrender (feat. YOU)
72%Overall Score
• Delicate breakdown section
• Heavy and darker mood in the drop by ÜHÜ
• Electro House influences in the old school lead
It makes me glad to see ÜHÜ, one of the most competent talents from Controversia (Alok‘s label), receiving a well-merited team-up with the imprint owner himself. The pair has already remixed “It Don’t Matter” in 2021, but it didn’t make quite an impact… And that’s a pity since ÜHÜ’s Future Rave style is peculiar, to say the least.
Mingling Future Rave elements with a slower pace, typical of Deep House/Brazilian Bass, the mentioned producer is experienced enough to release dynamic tunes, such as “Thinking About Ü” and “Silence“. Alok doesn’t need any re-acquainting either, being one of the most demanded DJs in the scene right now. Also, I felt that “Surrender” was way more of a brainchild of ÜHÜ than the Brazilian star.
The third figure involved here is YOU, a producer/songwriter who seems to be behind the beautiful vocal present during the breakdowns. A job deserving of praise, as I was hoping to hear more of that voice though!
Let’s get straight to the point then: “Surrender” opts for a darker undertone. There is a lighter breakdown with YOU’s performance, but the base slowly sets the listener off track with a set of experimental and futuristic components. The lead dances around before altering into a Techno/Future Rave rendition, while the bassline stays around with a softer timbre, but that’s definitely not a lightweight progression.
What comes as the conclusion sounds Techno, although retaining a Deep House low-end, and giving a nod to ÜHÜ’s domain: Future Rave. Thus, I would say that the desired output has been reached for a really interesting release!
Alok, ÜHÜ, and YOU worked sincerely on “Surrender” and their efforts are a clear indication of the want for innovation that Controversia and its roster have shown.
