mavzy grx & JuHyung – Your Dream
77%%Overall Score
• Progressive House, a pleasant surprise
• Magical aura
• Aggressive bassline, without overdoing the fills
Subsequently, after our Focus article delving into the Korean act Juhyung, there’s a steaming new collaboration along with mavzy grx, out on House District Records!
“Your Dream” is irresistible, there are plenty of interesting things going on!
First, the dynamism imparted by Juhyung (refer to the Focus article for more); then, the playful ingredients from the Australian collaborator, already having garnered praise for “Muchacho”. This sharp blend creates a rather surprising and invigorative Progressive House, endowed with the energy of a festival-oriented background notable to the pair’s approach.
Expecting either Big Room or Slap House, this was a sweet surprise altogether. A delicate vocal accompanies a somewhat standard breakdown (the piano is alluring, simple and effective). This segment has a sort of magical aura, thus the title, with a couple of twists on the lead: a clever move, as it makes the final product stand out on its own from the plain and unengaging ones.
The drop, finally, includes more complex melodic patterns I am used to hearing from Juhyung along with a ton of aggressiveness at the low-end. It is fun, fits gorgeously with the vocal’s timbre and doesn’t overdo with the fills, and takes home the appreciation it deserves.
Doubtful of softer Progressive stylistic choice from these kinds of aliases, I am delighted to declare they thoroughly convinced me. There’s a bright path awaiting ahead for mavzy grx and Juhyung if they keep this bold creativity and dare to experiment in this direction.
