Yo La Tengo & Sun Ra Arkestra announce NYC show to celebrate Marshall Allen’s 100th birthday

Sun Ra Arkestra leader Marshall Allen turns 100 in May, and the band will celebrate with a special NYC show with Yo La Tengo, whose Hanukkah run at Bowery Ballroom they can be counted on to open a show of each year. The Blue Note Jazz Festival-presented show happens on June 15 at Sony Hall, and tickets are on sale now.

Yo La Tengo also had Sun Ra Arkestra join them for the four-song encore of their San Francisco show at The Fillmore on Thursday night (2/8). Watch video from that below.

Sun Ra Arkestra have a couple more NYC area shows coming up, including Jersey City’s White Eagle Hall on February 17, and they’re on the lineup for the Jazz Foundation of America’s gala, on March 28 at The Apollo Theater. They’ll also stop in Philadelphia, Arkansas, and Alexandria over the next few months; see all of their upcoming dates below.
