Watch Michael Stipe & Jason Isbell perform R.E.M. songs and more at Kamala Harris campaign concert in Pittsburgh

“It’s been awhile since I’ve sung these songs, 16 years in fact, but I’m really happy to be here with Jason and with the soon-to-be-ever First Gentleman of the United States of America,” Michael Stipe told the crowd, referencing both his old band R.E.M. and Kamala Harris’ husband and current Second Gentlemen Doug Emhoff at Pittsburgh’s Schenley Plaza. Stipe and Jason Isbell were there to perform a few of their songs for a Get Out the Vote concert supporting Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.

Emmoff, who is an old school alt-rock fan, said he was “nerding out and geeking out” and getting to introduce Stipe and Isbell who performed four songs, including R.E.M.’s “The One I Love” and “Driver 8,” neither of which Stipe had sung in public since the band called it quits in 2008. Those were sandwiched around Isbell’s “Travelling Alone” and “Take the High Road.”

Isbell played acoustic and sang the Mike Mills harmonies on “The One I Love” and “Driver 8,” the latter he’s covered before. Watch video from their performance below.
