Watch FKA twigs' new short film, We Are The Womxn
Filmed during the UK singer’s 2019 tour, the video follows her travels to last year’s Afropunk festival in Atlanta. The short centers her participation in a sacred moon dance led by herbalist Queen Afua, as well as her visit to Blue Flame, Atlanta’s first Black strip club.
“I’m actually pretty shy, but I felt so encouraged to dance and enjoy my body by all the amazing womxn who came together,” she shares about the experience. “I particularly bonded with one dancer at Blue Flame [named] Kharisma. She had such vibrant energy, and at the beginning of the night she called the other girls on to the stage to be admired and supported in their expression.”
We Are The Womxn comes after her earlier film Practice, which documented the training process of recording the video for “Cellophane.” That was the lead single for her RA-recommended 2019 album, MAGDALENE.
