Watch Chappell Roan debut a new country song on SNL

Chappell Roan made her Saturday Night Live debut on November 2’s John Mulaney-hosted, Kamala Harris-featuring episode, and she performed her fan fave “Pink Pony Club” which erupted into a crowd singalong with SNL’s live audience, and also debuted a new country song. It’s her third new song that she’s introduced to the world this year, following the April release of her breakthrough single “Good Luck, Babe!” and the other new song she’s been playing live since the summer, “The Subway.” It’s got strong ’90s country pop rock vibes (Shania Twain, Faith Hill, etc) but with an overtly queer spin, and even just from hearing it once it already feels like a hit. Chappell had a fiddle player with her for the occasion, and she and her band were all dressed in country get-ups and surrounded by a rural backdrop, including a directional sign that had Tennessee, Manhattan, and Santa Monica listed. At one point in the song, she shouts “All you country boys say you know how to treat a woman right, but only a woman knows how to treat a woman right!” and the crowd audibly cheers. Watch her performances below.

The SNL appearance followed Bowen Yang referencing Chappell during Weekend Update earlier this year, which he later clarified that he wasn’t “mocking” her during, following social media backlash. At the end of this episode, Chappell and Bowen could be seen holding hands on stage during the farewell.

SNL will also welcome back Chappell’s fellow 2024 pop girl of summer, Charli XCX (who Bowen also portrayed in a sketch earlier this year), to pull double duty as host and musical guest on November 16. Charli, Chappell, and Sabrina Carpenter will also all headline Primavera Sound in 2025, which Charli herself referred to as “holy trinity unlocked.”

SNL’s next episode is November 9 with host Bill Murr and musical guest Mk.gee.
