Waajeed reveals plans for the Underground Music Academy in Detroit

Waajeed is currently raising funds for the Underground Music Academy, set to open in Detroit.

Waajeed has secured a location for the new school on East Grand Boulevard for the new school, neighboring Submerge, and the new initiative is inspired by Underground Resistance. In an interview with RA contributor Ash Lauryn, he stated the physical space won’t open until 2022, but will launch next year with online tutorials offered free of charge for musicians of all ages.

Planned classes focus on studio and publishing basics, with a focus on both music production and music business. Job placements and internships will also factor in to Underground Music Academy’s curriculum.

Waajeed started fundraising for UMA with his two-part Acts Of Love EP. The first volume sold out in October, while the second part—available for preorder here—is due out on December 9th. In December, he’ll host an online raffle of donated items and memorabilia, including a framed photograph of J. Dilla taken from a recent exhibition of unseen photographs of the legendary hip-hop producer.
