Vampire Weekend joined Goose for 31-minute “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa,” played The Daily Show & more

Vampire Weekend released their great fifth album, Only God Was Above Us, last week, and they’ve been keeping extremely busy since. Over the weekend, they took over SiriusXM’s XMU, which was dubbed Vampire Weekend Radio for the occasion. Their takeover included a live set, where they were joined by Amber Coffman for a cover of Grateful Dead’s “Peggy-O.” Watch video of that below.

They kept the festivities going with on Monday, also celebrating the total solar eclipse, at a special Austin, TX show at Moody Amphitheather. It was also Ezra Koenig‘s 40th birthday, and after giving a bunch of the new material its live debut, they took a 10-minute intermission while the eclipse darkened the sky. When they came back, in addition to playing a bunch of fan favorite older material, they brought out Thomas Mars for a rendition of Phoenix’s Alpha Zulu track “Tonight,” and Dave 1 for Chromeo‘s “Needy Girl.” You can check out photos from the show (and a few of the eclipse) by Suzanne Cordeiro below, and it’s also available to stream on demand for Veeps subscribers.

On Tuesday, Vampire Weekend were revealed as a surprise addition to weekend one of Coachella, where they’ll perform on Saturday (4/13).

On Wednesday night, Ezra, Chris Baio, and Chris Tomson made a surprise appearance at the final night of Goose‘s four-show Capitol Theatre run. They teamed up for an extended version of Only God Was Above Us track “Gen-X Cops”, followed by a 31-minute version of “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa.” Watch video of that, and see a few photos of them together by Jeff Kravitz below.

Koenig, Baio, and Tomson also appeared on The Daily Show on Wednesday night, where they spoke with host Michael Kostsa and performed “Mary Boone.” Watch that, and an interview clip, below.

After some festival dates this month and next, Vampire Weeke’s tour begins in earnest in June, including NYC shows at Madison Square Garden on October 5 and 6, with Mark Ronson on day one, The Brothers Macklovitch on day two, and Billy Joel tribute band Turnstiles on both.
