Thursday playing ‘Waiting’ in full at “old school NJHC party”

Thursday have been playing their classic albums Full Collapse and War All The Time in full a lot on tour lately for their 20th-ish anniversaries, and now they’re reaching back to the album that started it all, their 1999 debut album Waiting, for its 25th anniversary. They aren’t doing a full tour behind it, and they also aren’t doing their usual holiday shows at Starland Ballroom this year, so in lieu of both of those things, they’re throwing an “old school NJHC party” by playing the album in full at the intimate NJ venue Crossroads on December 7, with an all-ages afternoon matinee and a night show. They’re doing the album “and so much more,” and the band says, “These are the only two shows where we plan to play Waiting and there are no plans to add additional dates.”

Tickets go on sale Thursday (8/15) at noon. Here’s the band’s full announcement:

Waiting Live – Twenty Five! Here are the ground rules. Unfortunately, there will be no traditional holiday shows this year and there will be no full on Waiting tour but we couldn’t let something as monumental as the 25th Birthday of our first child pass without throwing an old school NJHC party! There will be two shows on the same day – an afternoon performance and an evening show on December 7th at @crossroadsgarwoodnj Both will feature WAITING played in full and so much more! These are the only two shows where we plan to play Waiting and there are no plans to add additional dates. The afternoon show will be all ages and the evening show will be 21+ Those that attended our St Vitus Full Collapse shows will remember the amazing @mdrndvsn die cut O Card slip case version of Full Collapse. Ryan has graciously created a new limited edition commemorative Waiting version for these two shows and they look amazing. There will be 100 signed (by the band) copies available for each show as a ticket bundle when the shows go on sale tomorrow (Thursday) at noon eastern. @housebear also designed an incredible Bible Baptist Bus (cunningly pulling up to 331 Somerset) poster and there will be 50 of these signed posters (per show) offered as a ticket bundle also (goto thursday.net for ticket links) Posters and Vinyl will be picked up from the merch booth on the night. Waiting is the record that started it all and these will be truly unique ‘once in a lifetime’ shows. No Barrier, No Tour, No Doy! See you on the floor Jersey.

In addition to all the nostalgic celebrations they’ve been doing, Thursday recently released their first new song in 13 years, “Application For Release From the Dream.” Read our track review, and pick up the single on limited white etched vinyl.

In related news, you can catch the influential-on-Thursday screamo veterans Saetia doing an all-ages matinee at Crossroads on November 17, and Thursday’s close friend Anthony Green just announced a short tour that lands at Crossroads on December 14.

Thursday’s Geoff Rickly is also heading out on his own in support of Kurt Travis (Royal Coda, ex-Dance Gavin Dance, ex-A Lot Like Birds), who will be performing his 2014 debut album Everything Is Beautiful in full for its 10th anniversary (and who once called Geoff one of the two “singers I looked up to when I started singing,” the other being Cedric Bixler-Zavala from At the Drive-In). Thursday says, “Come hang out with Geoff, talk books, drink coffee, chat on music and perfume and movies… Geoff will be at the merch table every night after he plays.” That includes NYC’s Racket on November 12. All dates are listed below.
