The White Stripes sue Donald Trump over use of “Seven Nation Army”
When Jack White wrote “Law suit coming from my lawyers” in reference to Donald Trump’s continued use of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” with his campaign, he wasn’t kidding. The White Stripes have officially sued Trump, Donald J Trump For President 2024, Inc and Trump’s deputy director of communications, Margo McAtee Martin, for “flagrant misappropriation of the musical composition and sound recording ‘Seven Nation Army’” with the United States District Court Southern District of New York.
Jack White shared part of the first page of the lawsuit on Instagram, writing “This machine sues fascists.” Via Pitchfork, the suit states Trump and his campaign “chose to ignore and not respond to Plaintiffs’ pre-litigation efforts to resolve the matters at issue in this action,” and in doing so “indiscriminately trampled on Plaintiffs’ legal rights.” The suite also says that The White Stripes “vehemently oppose the policies adopted and actions taken by Defendant Trump when he was President and those he has proposed for the second term he seeks.”
The lawsuit stems from a since deleted post by the official TrumpDailyPosts account on X/Twitter that had a video using “Seven Nation Army.”
The suit also demands a jury trial.
