The Last Dinner Party played Brooklyn Steel with Miss Grit (pics, video, setlist)
Rapidly-rising UK band The Last Dinner Party are having a big year – they won BBC’s Sound of in January (the first guitar band to do so in 11 years), they released their debut album, Prelude to Ecstasy, in February, and now they’re on a North American tour with Miss Grit leading up to Coachella. They stopped in NYC this week for shows at Webster Hall and Brooklyn Steel on Tuesday and Wednesday nights (3/26 & 3/27). We went on Wednesday night; the room was well on its way to being full when Miss Grit took the stage solo, covered in projections as they played songs from their 2023 debut album Follow The Cyborg. The projections added an interesting, android-esque touch, and they sounded great, especially when ripping guitar solos.
Brooklyn Steel was totally packed by the time The Last Dinner Party came out in lace dreses. They embrace a high femme aesthetic, with vocalist Abigail Morris skipping and twirling barefoot over the stage, but songs like “My Lady of Mercy,” which they say is about going to Catholic school, get pretty heavy, as does unreleased track “Big Dog.” Their theatrical set was full of grand romantic gestures and had the sold out crowd singing and dancing along, especially when they ended the night with their first single and biggest hit, “Nothing Matters.” A total delight.
See pictures from Wednesday night’s show and the setlist, along with attendee-taken videos from both NYC shows below.
