The 2024 NYC Drag March in (NSFW) pics
The grand finale weekend of Pride Month in NYC is upon us, and with it some of the month’s biggest events. Kicking off the weekend on Friday night (6/28) was the annual Drag March, which brought hundreds of fabulously attired people to the streets of Manhattan as they walked from Tompkins Square Park to the Stonewall National Monument (where President Joe Biden appeared earlier in the day with Elton John to inaugurate the opening of a new visitor center), chanting, whistling, drumming, dancing, and strutting (often in stilettos) all the way.
Having begun in 1994 when NYC Pride blocked drag queens and leather daddies from the Stonewall 25 celebrations, the march is staunchly political and non-corporate, and many participants carried signs (or themed their outfits around) Palestinian liberation and protests of legislation restricting access to gender-affirming care. Check out pictures of this year’s edition (some are NSFW) by Amanda Hatfield below.
Also coming up this weekend are the Dyke March and Harlem Pride on Saturday, 6/29. Sunday, 6/30 is the Queer Liberation March and NYC Pride‘s big march and PrideFest street fair. There are also a ton of Pride-related music events happening this weekend, which you can find in What’s Going On.
