T Bone Burnett previewed new LP at National Sawdust (pics, setlist)

T Bone Burnett releases his first solo album in two decades, The Other Side, in a week, and ahead of his Nashville shows in May (which are his first full-length concerts in 20 years) he stopped in Brooklyn for a special event at National Sawdust on Wednesday night (4/10), part of Grammy Museum®’s “A New York Evening” series of performances and conversations. The night started with Burnett in conversation with singer-songwriter Joe Henry; they touched on Burnett’s beginnings and early years, his work as a writer and curator, striving for the best sound, his acetate disc record format, and more. It was an interesting, informative conversation that showed Burnett’s sense of humor, too.

After a break to reset the stage, Burnett came back out with musician, producer and previous collaborator Colin Linden, who joined him on a short set of songs from the new album, closing with an encore cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Tower of Song.” See pictures from the show by P Squared, and the setlist, below.
