Switzerland orders 300 Zurich clubgoers to quarantine after one tests positive for coronavirus
The Swiss government has ordered the 300 people who attended the venue to quarantine for ten days after one person who was present tested positive for the coronavirus on Thursday, Mixmag reports. Local officials said that five other people who were in the “superspreader”‘s group tested positive on Friday, according to the Independent.
“Unfortunately, this week it was found that four-to-five people who stayed with us last week had infected themselves with COVID-19,” a translation of the venue’s statement reads. “Thanks to your cooperation and the consistently implemented guest registration, the medical service was able to contact the guests present at the time.”
This comes soon after the Swiss government increased the allowed capacity for indoor events from 300 people to 1,000. Switzerland has seen about 32,000 reported cases of COVID-19 with nearly 200 deaths. Before last week, the daily number of new reported cases in the country ranged between 10 and 30, although its recently crept higher, with numbers in the 50s and 60s.
Indoor social spaces like bars and clubs have been found to have the highest risk of spread. A similar nightlife-centric superspreader spike happened in Seoul in May, after South Korea eased its lockdown. One person who was positive for COVID-19 and visited five venues was linked to 17 new cases.
