Solidarity Sounds UK hosts Change The Record fundraiser for Black History Month
The fundraising events and radio platform will present a day of talks, readings and performances beginning at 3 PM BST, before the evening programme of live music, DJ sets and dance workshops takes over from 8 PM BST. Change The Record’s programme focuses on systemic racism in 2020, UK Black history, education reform and more, and to fit the day’s theme, all the original, pre-recorded lectures, sessions and performances were filmed at the former Blackfriars Crown Court in Southwark. 100 percent of proceeds will go to The Black Curriculum, which seeks to reform Black British history education, and Safer London, which provides support for young Londoners through community and peer networks.
The daytime agenda will feature educational speakers, Q&A’s and discussions with Naked Politics‘ Banseka Kayembe (pictured), solicitor Sean Poulier and radio presenter Isis Amlak, as well as spoken-word performances by poets Kieron Rennie, I Sis and David Neita. There’ll also be wellness sessions of yoga and meditation and a “brain break” workout, plus music video and film screenings with Rhumzy and FlockTogether.World cofounders Ollie and Nadeem, respectively.
For the evening, Alpha Sessions and SSUKradio have curated a lineup of DJ sets and live performances from Satin Beige, Nyah Grace, Eliza Mai, Kaylee Golding and Likkle Fyah (AKA Hazel)—plus a dance workshop. See the full programme here.
