RM of BTS Suffers Ankle Injury Ahead of Comeback Concert, Performance Will Be ‘Partially Limited’
BTS leader RM has sustained an ankle injury just days before the group’s highly anticipated comeback performance, leading to a modified stage presence for the upcoming event. The news, which has left the global ARMY fanbase concerned, was confirmed via an official statement released by BigHit Music on Friday, March 20.
The Injury Report
According to the label’s announcement on the fan platform Weverse, the injury occurred during a rehearsal on March 19. RM was immediately transported to a medical facility for a comprehensive evaluation. The medical team diagnosed him with a sprain of the accessory navicular, a partial ligament tear, and a talus contusion, which involves both inflammation and ligament damage. Doctors have mandated that he wear a protective cast for at least two weeks to ensure a proper and complete recovery.
Modifications to the Comeback Stage
Despite the medical setback, RM remains determined to participate in the group’s upcoming comeback stage at Gwanghwamun Square on March 21. BigHit Music confirmed that while his movements will be “partially limited”—specifically regarding choreography—he will still appear on stage to engage with the audience. The decision to limit his performance was made to prioritize his long-term health and prevent further injury, following close consultation between the artist and his medical team.
A Highly Anticipated Return
This performance marks a massive milestone for BTS, being their first full-group concert in years. The event is set to be a spectacle, with a massive live audience expected at Gwanghwamun and a simultaneous global livestream via Netflix. The hype surrounding the return is tied to their new album, ARIRANG, which dropped on Friday. The project serves as the band’s first full-length effort since their 2020 Billboard 200 chart-topper, Be. Following the Seoul concert, the group is slated to head to New York City for a series of high-profile appearances, including a spot on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and a special Spotify fan event.
Safety Measures in Seoul
The scale of the Seoul comeback has prompted local authorities to raise the terror alert level by one step, with significant security measures in place. Over 6,500 police officers and 70 riot control units are being deployed to manage the massive crowds. Both RM and fellow member Jin have issued heartfelt pleas to fans to prioritize safety and maintain order during the gathering. BigHit Music concluded their statement by expressing their deep appreciation for the fans’ understanding and reiterating their commitment to RM’s recovery.
