Redd Kross share “Born Innocent” video featuring footage from upcoming documentary
Redd Kross have a busy year ahead, with a new self-titled double album, a new memoir by sibling co-founders Jeff & Steven McDonald, and a documentary about the band all on the way. The new single off the album is “Born Innocent,” which is also theme song to the documentary of the same name (and is also the title to their 1982 debut album) and is basically the story of the band. The video features footage from the film — included rare shots of Redd Kross’ earliest days when they were young teenagers — and kinda doubles as a trailer for the film.
“The video previewed here gives a sneak peek at the incredible treasure trove of archival material that Andrew has unearthed in the nearly a decade he has spent making this historical document,” say the McDonalds. “Interspersed in the video is footage of the band recording the song late last year with producer Josh Klinghoffer on drums.” Watch the “Born Innocent” video below.
Born Innocent: The Redd Kross Story features interviews with Sonic Youth, The Melvins, Mudhoney, Soundgarden, The Go-Go’s, The Bangles, The Muffs, That Dog, The Germs, Dinosaur Jr., The Minutemen, The Linda Lindas, Veruca Salt, Jellyfish, The Fastbacks, The Side Eyes, and the first three Black Flag singers. It’s screened at festivals and in select cities, and will be shown at L.A.’s American Cinematheque on May 23 & May 27 as part of the Don’t Knock the Rock Film Festival.
Redd Kross’ new eponymous double album will be out June 28 via In the Red and the band will be on tour this summer with Melvins’ Dale Crover opening with a solo acoustic set and a DJ set. The tour hits the NYC area on July 25 at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City and July 26 at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. All dates are listed below.
As for the memoir, Now You’re One of Us: The Incredible Story of Redd Kross will be out October 10 via Omnibus Press
