Portishead’s Beth Gibbons warmed up for her first-ever solo tour with intimate London gig (setlist, video)
Portishead singer Beth Gibbons just released her fantastic solo debut, Lives Outgrown, and will officially start her tour for it in Paris on Monday. She warmed up for it, though, on Thursday night with a very intimate rehearsal gig at London’s 265-capacity Charing Cross Theatre.
She and her seven-piece band, which includes James Ford (who produced the album) and Emma Smith (who also plays in Pulp), played all 10 songs from Lives Outgrown, plus “Mysteries” and “Tom the Model” from her 2002 collaborative album with Rusin Man (Talk Talk’s Paul Webb). For those wondering if she would dip into any Portishead material at all, their prayers were answered with “Roads,” arguably the trip hop icons’ greatest song, which she played as the first song of the encore. The night ended with Lives Outgrown‘s “Reaching Out.”
Check out the full setlist, plus fan-shot video and Instagrams from the London show and their BBC performance of “Floating on a Moment,” below.
So far, Beth’s solo tour only includes UK and European shows. Fingers crossed they come to North America.
