Oxbow say they “no longer exist” following accusation towards guitarist
Earlier this week, Oxbow leader Eugene Robinson left the band that he founded 35 years ago, saying, “Recent circumstances have caused me several dark nights of the soul and while it feels/seems crazy to kill my involvement in that which I started, I think it necessary so that maybe a kind of healing can take place that will make OXBOW a comfortable place for me to be again.” It left people wondering what that meant for the future of Oxbow, and what those “recent circumstances” might have been, and today Niko Wenner has shed some more light on the situation. In a statement posted simultaneously to his and the band’s Instagram stories, Niko says that “an accusation was leveled at [him]” during their recent European tour and that “as it stands now Oxbow as a band no longer exists. Whether this is a permanent state of affairs remains to be seen.”
“It’s probably not appropriate for me to give details since the allegation is still unresolved,” he added. “The alleged incident, said to have occurred in a crowd, involved only myself and the person making the accusation. None of the others in Oxbow were there.” He also adds that the accusation led to the band cancelling the last four dates of their tour, which were all in France.
See Niko’s full statement below. We’ll update if we learn more.
