One Step Closer’s Ryan Savitski discusses his 10 favorite albums of 2024
It was a good year for One Step Closer, who released their sophomore album All You Embrace in May on Run For Cover, co-headlined the melodic hardcore tour of the year with Koyo and old friends Anxious (the latter of whom OSC singer Ryan Savitski used to play guitar in), and got that coveted Wonder Years co-sign when they played the band’s annual Philly fest. They’ve already got some touring lined up for 2025, including Run For Cover’s 20th anniversary Something in the Way festival, and now Ryan has shared with us his list of his favorite albums of 2024.
Ryan’s list mostly includes other bands from in and around the hardcore/punk/emo scene, but like so many of us, he was also won over by current reigning pop queens Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX. See his full list with commentary on each pick below.

Knocked Loose – You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To
This record is amazing and my favorite piece of music that KL has put out yet. Watching Knocked play Wilkes Barre in 2018 to like 150 people, to now being Grammy-nominated is truly special. Much love and respect.
Sabrina Carpenter – Short n’ Sweet
I can’t get enough of this record. It’s insanely catchy and exactly what I want when I’m listening to a pop record. I’ve listened to “Espresso” almost every day since it came out.
The Story So Far – I Want To Disappear
This band doesn’t put out a bad record. I’ve come back to this record so much since it’s come out and I like it more and more each time.
Speed – Only One Mode
Sick record that reminds me a lot of my favorite hardcore records growing up. They did something right with this one. Incredible band and people.
Life’s Question – Self Titled EP
I can’t express how underrated I think Life’s Question is. I love this band so much and this EP is some of their best stuff yet. I’ve listened to this record a ton this year.
Drug Church – Prude
The goats are just continuing to be goated with this record. Excited to see what they continue to do.
Tarantula – If You’re Sideways, I’m Upside Down
First release of a new band that I was stoked on this year. I’m excited to hear more and see how the sound develops. Definitely listened to this a bunch this year.
Charli XCX – BRAT
If you haven’t listened to this record you’re insane. It’s so catchy and fun. Perfect music to pick up the vibe if it’s low.
SeeYouSpaceCowboy – Coup De Grace
My favorite Cowboy release yet. The entire theme of the record is very cool and they absolutely nailed it through the entire record. Love to see the team winning.
If Kansas Had Trees – Where You Thought You Would Be
Our fellow Wilkes Barre family put out one of my favorite records this year. They are a band that I think people should be paying closer attention to. It’s everything you’d want in an emo record.
