No Values pics & video: Misfits, Iggy Pop, Power Trip, Jesus Lizard, L7, Turnstile, Scowl, Fishbone & more

Goldenvoice’s new punk festival No Values went down at Pomona, CA’s Pomona Fairplex on Saturday (6/8) with a stacked lineup of bands from all throughout the greater “punk” umbrella, and from a variety of different eras, including comeback sets from The Jesus Lizard, Power Trip, and The Dillinger Escape Plan, plus the Misfits, Iggy Pop, Turnstile, The Exploited, L7, Joyce Manor, Bad Religion, Sublime, Suicidal Tendencies, The Damned, The Garden, Ceremony, The Vandals, Scowl, Soul Glo, The Adicts, Cro-Mags, Social Distortion, Fishbone, T.S.O.L., and more.

Power Trip’s return followed a surprise Austin set in December with Seth Gilmore (who also plays with Power Trip guitarist Blake Ibanez in Fugitive, and fronts Skourge) filling in for the late Riley Gale on lead vocals. They sandwiched No Values between two other West Coast shows, which were their first full, officially announced shows since Riley’s death. They also have Dallas and NYC shows coming up.

Starting halfway through Power Trip’s set on the Holt Ave stage was Iggy Pop, whose backing band for No Values included Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner, Joan Wasser (aka Joan as Police Woman), and Matt Sweeney (Zwan, Chavez). His set was almost entirely Stooges songs (except “Lust For Life” and “The Passenger”), including two songs he hadn’t played solo in years–“1970” for the first time since 1989, and “I Got a Right” for the first time since 2003.

A little earlier in the afternoon, The Jesus Lizard played their second show since 2019 (their first was on Thursday night in Nashville), and second since announcing their first new album in 26 years, Rack. Their set included their new single “Hide & Seek,” which got its live debut in Nashville.

The Dillinger Escape Plan‘s set marked their first show since 2017, and first with original vocalist Dimitri Minakakis since 2001. They also brought out Jello Biafra (who was on the fest as a DJ) for a Dead Kennedys song, and Mike Muir of Suicidal Tendencies for the Minor Threat version of Wire‘s “12XU.” Read more about DEP’s set and see videos and their setlist here.

For Jello Biafra, that was one of two surprise appearances he made; he also sang a Dead Kennedys classic with Agent Orange, and you can watch a video of that and read Tony Hawk’s recap of it here.

Misfits closed out the night. As lots of people on social media pointed out, including Pinback’s Rob Crow, Danzig told the crowd, “We haven’t been here in 5 years because of some bullshit made-up pandemic!”
