My Brightest Diamond announces new LP & tour, shares “Have You Ever Seen an Angel”
Shara Nova, who is currently a vocalist in the Broadway production of Sufjan Stevens theatre/dance production Illinoise, has announced a new album as My Brightest Diamond. Fight the Real Terror is due out on September 13 via Western Vinyl, and she started writing it during a three-day blackout that struck Detroit following the news of Sinéad O’Connor‘s death. (Unrelated events.) “Fight the Real Terror is a question about activism, and about examining our vulnerabilities,” Nova says. “I am not offering answers but a glimpse into these contemplations. Writing quickly without orchestration forced me to be in the moment, focusing on structure rather than frill. I wrote & recorded a song a day in my home studio and rather than going back over to tweak, Tom Schick & I wanted to stay close to the unpolished emotion keeping the first drafts.”
The first single is the soaring “Have You Ever Seen An Angel,” which she calls “a reflection on some of the worst moments in my life, moments of great loss or shock, and how at key moments I felt connected to something bigger than myself, as though I was being helped or a feeling of not being alone even when I was alone.” Watch the accompanying video, directed by Andrew Ondrejcak, below.
Nova also announced a fall tour, running through September and October in North America; see all dates below. She’ll be in NYC on September 19 at Elsewhere Zone One with NOIA, and tickets are on sale now.
