Modest Mouse brought ‘Good New for People Who Love Bad News’ to Brooklyn Steel (night 1 pics, video, setlist)

Modest Mouse are wrapping up their tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of Good News For People Who Love Bad News; they hit Brooklyn Steel on Thursday night (11/21) for the first of three shows at the venue, which close out the run and the band’s tour plans for the year. The bulk of their set was dedicated to a playthrough of Good News from beginning to end, and for the encore they looked back to 2000’s The Moon & Antarctica with “Wild Packs of Family Dogs,” and also included a pair of of No One’s First and You’re Next tracks (“The Whale Song” and “King Rat”), the title track to 1999’s Night on the Sun, and “Back to the Middle” from their most recent album, 2021’s The Golden Casket. See Thursday night’s setlist below.

The Black Heart Procession has been opening most of these shows, but we unfortunately missed their Brooklyn Steel set. See pictures from Thursday night by Dimitry Mak below, along with a couple of video clips.

Modest Mouse have two more shows to go at Brooklyn Steel on Friday (11/22) and Saturday (11/23). They also recently announced their first show of 2025, a set at Missoula, Montana’s Zootown Festival, which happens on July 4-5 and also features Kacey Musgraves, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Lake Street Dive, Julien Baker & Torres, Lee Fields & The Expressions, Madi Diaz, Buck Meek, Chaparelle, and more.
