Mary Lattimore reveals new album, Silver Ladders, for Ghostly International
Lattimore, who has built a strong following for her evocative mix of harp and electronics, recorded the album with Neil Halstead, of the legendary shoegaze unit Slowdive. After meeting Halstead at a festival, Lattimore asked him to prodce the LP. Over nine days, Lattimore and Halstead worked closely together at the former’s studio in Cornwall, Lattimore’s harp enmeshing with Halstead’s guitar and low-end synth on three existing demos and four improvised pieces.
The studio’s surroundings,”the Cornish landscape, the hotel from the movie The Witches, the cream tea, winning the pub quiz, the Sunday roast, the ghosts of all of the surfers who had died in the wild waves, the night walks to the top of the hill to see the moon shining on the water…,” Lattimore recalls, left their impression on Silver Ladders. which takes its name from an experience she had swimming in Stari Grad, Croatia, on the island of Hvar. “I spent some days there just swimming in the bay, silver ladders right into the sea,” Lattimore says.
The album is out in October and follows her 2018 full-length for Ghostly, Hundreds Of Days, as well as a full-length collaboration with Mac McCaughan.
Lattimore will also take place in a Ghostly Knowledge Share themed around “Philosophy, Inspiration & Workflow,” set to go down on Ghostly’s Twitch on Thursday July 16th at 7 PM EDT (event listing below). She’ll participate in a panel discussion alongside fellow Ghostly artists Galcher Lustwerk, Ouri and Shigeto.
