Martin Khanja and Sam Karugu are Duma on self-titled debut album for Nyege Nyege Tapes

Nairobi’s Martin Khanja and Sam Karugu are releasing their debut album as Duma this August.

Khanja, AKA Lord Spike Heart, and Karugu know each from the Kenyan capital’s underground metal scene. Last year, they joined forces as Duma, with Karugu swapping bass guitar for production and guitars and Khanja providing intense vocals. Duma means “darkness” in Swahili.

The nine-track LP, which lands via Nyege Nyege Tapes on August 7th, blends elements of punk and thrash metal with breakcore and industrial noise. It was recorded during a three-month period in Kampala, Uganda.
