London trio Mary in the Junkyard share “This is My California,” playing NYC in December
London trio Mary in the Junkyard were formed during the pandemic by Clari Freeman-Taylor (vocals, guitar), Saya Barbaglia (bass, viola), and David Addison (drums) who were all studying orchestral music at the time. The band started as a distraction from their more formal studies but they soon gained a reputation as a live act and for their textured brand of indie rock. This spring they released their debut EP, this old house, which was produced by XL Recordings head Richard Russell and are now gearing up to release a new EP.
While full details on that EP have not been revealed yet, Mary in the Junkyard have released the single “this is my california” which was produced by Craig Silvey (M Ward, Baxter Dury). There’s a delicate spectral beauty here that recalls everything from Galaxie 500 to Porridge Radio. Listen below.
Mary in the Junkyard will be in NYC this December for their first US shows, playing TV Eye on 12/4 as part of Model/Actriz‘s 2024 Christmukkuh celebration, and a free headline show at Baby’s All Right on 12/5. They’ll also be in Austin in March for SXSW.
