• Surprising twists in the drop part
• Climax section mixing familiar and experimental elements
• Another interesting take on Knock2‘s hit
“dashstar*” became one of my favorite Bass House tracks from last year and from time to time, I still blast it on the speakers. Being the biggest hit (racking several million plays) from Knock2, there has been a careful strategy of releases from the alias to keep the momentum alive.
The familiar metallic lead has been reworked in a 2022 VIP edit by Knock2 again, introducing an unexpected Phonk section fashioned with a midtempo bassline… But today we will be diverting our attention towards the third remix attempt at “dashstar*”, from none other than Yellow Claw.
Between holding the biggest reputation in the Trap panorama with their idiosyncratic discography and everything related to their Barong Family label, I have followed the group for a while and always liked to hear their experimental methodology towards Trap, which not rarely turns to be plenty in old-school elements.
In this case, we have a classic Yellow Claw structure capable of re-sizing the original Bass House hit and altering it into a Festival Trap banger. The breakdown turns into a huge climactic performance where the lead and the vocal accelerate into the drop, which was quite a surprise. The lead transforms into one suitable to the said genre, while the melodies become glitchier. The bass, needless to say, thumps and kicks without being too gentle with the lows.
This take on the “dashstar*” has left me remarkably satisfied because Yellow Claw adhered to the familiar settings in the breakdown, embellishing their signature around the build-up and then delivering a game-changing drop. It was too easy to just switch in a trap bassline under the Knock2 lead and call it a day… There is a lot of refinement here. Without sidelining the stunning original track, this remix is more than worthy of a recommendation.
