Jeff Tweedy brought out Scott McCaughey & Karly Hartzman, and more from Solid Sound day 3 (pics, video)

The 2024 edition of Wilco‘s Solid Sound festival wrapped up last Sunday (6/30) at Mass MoCA in North Adams, MA. Day three had performances paused during the afternoon because of storms in area, causing Wednesday‘s set to be cancelled. The band’s Karly Hartzman did make an appearance once the show resumed, though, joining Jeff Tweedy for his guest-filled “and Friends” set on “How Hard It Is for a Desert to Die.” Watch video of that below.

Tweedy was also joined by his sons Spencer and Sammy Tweedy for the set, as well as James Elkington (Eleventh Dream Day), Sima Cunningham and Macie Stewart (Finom), and Liam Kazar (Sima’s brother). Scott McCaughey (who had performed on Saturday with The Young Fresh Fellows) also joined Tweedy for “Let’s Go Rain,” which namedrops him in the lyrics.

Tweedy covered Roebuck “Pop” Staples’ “Friendship,” which he dedicated to a beloved member of the fan community who had recently passed away; a bunch of his friends also honored him by wearing shirts with the Wonder Bread-inspired Wilco logo he’d designed. He also did renditions of Mavis Staples’ “You Are Not Alone” (from her album with the same name, which he produced), and T. Rex’s “Cosmic Dancer,” which he was joined by most of Wilco on, with his son Sammy taking over lead vocals. Lance Bangs could be seen filming from the side of the stage throughout the set.

Sunday at Solid Sound 2024 also featured Miracle Legion (who are playing their first shows since 2017, and were joined by Wilco’s Pat Sansone and Young@Heart), Saccata Quartet (featuring Wilco’s Nels Cline and Glenn Kotche), a pop-up set from Big Sadie, Iris DeMent, comedy from Mikael Jorgensen, The Autumn Defense (the project of Wilco’s Pat Sansone and John Stirratt), and a duo set from Mary Halvorson and Tomas Fujiwara.
