Jane’s Addiction end show early after Perry Farrell punches Dave Navarro

Jane’s Addiction ended their Boston show early on Friday night (9/13) after Perry Farrell had on onstage altercation with Dave Navarro. Attendee-taken footage from what wound up being the final song of the night at Leader Bank Pavilion, “Ocean Size,” shows Farrell throwing a punch at Navarro, then being restrained by multiple crew members and bassist Eric Avery, who eventually lead the enraged vocalist backstage.

The altercation comes after reports of issues on earlier dates of the tour, including night one of two at NYC’s The Rooftop at Pier 17 on Tuesday (9/10), where Farrell addressed the crowd, saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, I have to be honest with you. Something’s wrong with my voice… Something’s going wrong. I can’t get my notes out.” Ferrell was visibly and audibly out of it Tuesday night, it was more than his voice, and the show nearly ended after Ferrell’s remarks about his voice. Avery wrote on his Instagram, “Looking forward to getting another crack at this spectacular rooftop venue tonight. I’m optimistic we will be better.”

Creative Loafing‘s review of the Tampa show earlier this month also says that Farrell “seemed off early in the set, and his behavior seemed to spiral more throughout the night,” continuing, “Farrell launched into many nonsensical rants about cow pastures, mushrooms, surfing, living in Florida, and arguing with his brother about politics, among other undecipherable topics. Chugging from a full bottle of wine throughout the performance, one almost got the feeling that this wasn’t the first bottle he’d uncorked for the night. At one point, during one of his ramblings, Navarro deliberately cranked out a loud, piercing chord on his guitar, as almost to silence Farrell and get the show back on track.”

Jane’s Addiction’s current tour, which is their first in 14 years with their original lineup, is scheduled to continue on Sunday (9/15) in Bridgeport, CT; there has been no statement from the band at this time.
