Hong Kong club 宀 launches record label

宀 (Mihn) Club in Hong Kong is starting a record label.

The outlet, also stylised as 宀, launches on Friday, December 4th with MIHN001, a ravey, four-track EP from local hero Mr. Ho and the club’s music director, Sunsiare. Each cut has “been tried, tested and developed in response to the carefully engineered club acoustics and peak-time euphoria,” the press release says.

In the pipeline are releases from Glasgow’s General Ludd as well as Hong Kong artists Misty Penguin and Xiaolin, who is a classically trained violinist.

With Hong Kong currently in the throes of another COVID-19 wave, 宀 can’t throw a launch party just yet. The club has been closed since November 21st—the third time it’s been forced to shut this year—as Hong Kong enters another semi-lockdown. If the number of new infections subsides in the coming weeks, the team says they hope to open by New Year’s Eve.

The label is the club’s latest creative project. After opening in mid-2018, the queer-friendly venue started 宀 Gallery, a pop-up arts space focused on emerging artists. This year, the team also collaborated with Hong Kong audio specialists Shozy on hand-crafted earphones featuring bass vents and fine-tuned drivers.

Listen to “Drama” by Sunsiare.
