Faruk Sabanci x Mark Sixma – Hayde

Faruk Sabanci x Mark Sixma – Hayde

77%Overall Score

• Turkish vocals working surprisingly well
• Lots of experience behind the structure
• Hard-hitting psy bassline

It’s been a while since I heard from Faruk Sabanci, the Turkish producer with a great discography, especially the ones on his erstwhile label Metanoia Music. I distinctly remember “:)” and “Be The One” on the said imprint (which has been abruptly rebranded to “Ghost The Music Network), and more recently “Don’t Want U Back” on Spinnin’. He’s been a bit out of my radar as he focused more on domestic releases, and the local music market is usually not on my list.

That apart, there’s a surprising collaborator: the Trance genre veteran Mark Sixma, for “Hayde”. Even if he is in the official title, it is via his alter-ego “M6“. Despite donning his side moniker, the Dutch producer made the most of this opportunity on this independent release, which features his trademark elements. There’s a quality Psy-Trance bassline, a bit predictable considering the plethora of releases out there but fitting nevertheless.

Speaking of which, let me introduce the real player of “Hayde”: the vocals. That’s probably the first time I am listening to a Turkish song, and I liked it! The uncredited vocalist did a tremendous job by rendering a sweet, dreamy, and catchy sequence which is suddenly interrupted by brutal Psy kicks! I was expecting something more creative towards the finale as the change of melody with a little pause wasn’t enough…but apart from this detail, the combination works.

While presenting a classic structure, the unique vocal paired with the experience of both producers provides the listeners with kicks and basses carrying ample magnitude of force, turning “Hayde” into a stand-out release!
