ex-My Chemical Romance drummer Bob Bryar dies at 44

Bob Bryar, who drummed in My Chemical Romance from 2004 to 2010 and was the drummer on The Black Parade, has died at 44 years old. According to TMZ, law enforcement sources said that he was found dead in his home in Tennessee on Tuesday (11/26), after last being seen alive on November 4.

TMZ reports, “Animal Control came to the house after the body — which we’re told was badly decomposed — was discovered and took two dogs away. The medical examiner is investigating the cause and manner of Bryar’s death.”

Bryar met the members of My Chemical Romance in 2004 during the band’s tour with The Used, while Bryar was working as a touring sound engineer for the latter band. He replaced MCR drummer Matt Pelissier shortly after the release of 2004’s Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and left before the release of 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, which Bryar is credited as a co-writer on but did not drum on. He was the band’s longest-tenured drummer. After leaving music, he began working in real estate and with dog rescue charities. In 2023, he posted a lengthy note online saying that he had contemplated suicide but “at the last moment realized that wasn’t the solution.”

Cause of Bryar’s death is not yet known, though TMZ reports that no foul play is suspected.

Rest in peace, Bob.
