Detroit producer 2Lanes announces new EP featuring John FM, Shigeto and more

2Lanes is releasing a new EP through Portage Garage Sounds on September 25th.

He calls the EP a “snapshot of Detroit,” and the two tracks feature a number of Detroit artists including John FM, Shigeto, Kesswa, Ian Fink and Ji Hoon (who recently put out a record on Vanity Press Recordings). According to 2Lanes, it was one of the last records pressed at the Apollo Masters plant before the devastating fire that took it out of commission and put the US vinyl industry into disarray.

“It’s extremely close-knit here and everyone knows each other,” 2Lanes says, “so that was a big energy I wanted to capture on this record, especially ‘Baby’s Born To Fish.'”

“Baby’s Born To Fish” features a duet between John FM and Kesswa, and was inspired by Fink’s Wednesday weekly at Motor City Wine. “Sometimes Shigeto would play on drums, sometimes house music luminary Andrés would play the congos, sometimes Kesswa would help sing a Sade cover,” 2Lanes explains, “and like any Detroit party, you could hear John FM cracking jokes. The scene was set.”
