David Gilmour began MSG run with Pink Floyd classics & new songs (night 1 video & setlist)
Having released Luck and Strange, his first solo album in 9 years, in September, David Gilmour is in the midst of a limited run of fall tour dates supporting it. He played multiple nights in Rome, London, and Los Angeles, and now he’s arrived in NYC for five shows at Madison Square Garden. The first of those happened on Monday night (11/4), where he delivered lots of Pink Floyd classics, some new songs, and a few tracks off of 2015’s Rattle that Lock. You can see his Monday night setlist, and attendee-taken video from the show below.
Like the London show BV Pink Floyd superfan Jeff Bergstrom caught, Monday night’s show began with “5 A.M.” Jeff wrote:
Beginning the show with the gorgeous “5 A.M.” from 2015’s Rattle That Lock, a song that features about as much signature “David Gilmour” sound as you can possibly cram into a single song, was a master stroke. By flowing from there directly into “Luck and Strange” and “Black Cat,” two of his new cuts, the audience was already mesmerized, and we hadn’t even gotten to the good stuff.
From there he jumped into classics territory, and this is where the show really came alive with the signature smoke, videos, animations, lights, and lasers one can expect from a Pink Floyd experience. A four song Dark Side of the Moon survey featuring “Speak To Me,” “Breathe (In the Air),” “Time,” and “Breathe (Reprise)” had the room roaring in a sing-along-unison. His guitar solo in “Time” was breathtaking and I don’t think I’ve seen more simultaneous air-guitaring happening in my life.

Gilmour’s MSG run continues with shows tonight (11/5), Wednesday (11/6), Saturday (11/9), and Sunday (11/10).
