Dark Entries to release new album of unheard Patrick Cowley cover songs, Some Funkettes

Dark Entries is releasing another Patrick Cowley archival album in October.

Some Funkettes is the newest album put together by the San Francisco label in cooperation with the late synth legend’s friends and family. Some Funkettes collects newly discovered cover versions that Cowley recorded between 1975 and 1977. Songs Cowley interprets include Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love”—which he would make a mythical 15-minute remix of a few years later—The Temptation’s “Papa Was A Rolling Stone,” Herbie Hancock’s “Chameleon” and “Do It Anyway You Wanna” by People’s Choice. There are also two vocal versions only available on the CD and digital versions.

The album cover features a collage made by Cowley’s roommate Francesca Rosa in 1975, and the album also comes with a four-page essay written by Rosa. It was put together by Dark Entries in collaboration with Cowley’s brother Jim and his studio-mate Maurice. The release of Some Funkettes coincides with what would have been Cowley’s 70th birthday.

Some Funkettes is sixth album of archival Cowley material released by Dark Entries, following last year’s Mechanical Fantasy Box, Catholic with Jorge Socarras and the trilogy of porn soundtrack albums: Afternooners, Muscle Up and School Daze.
