Courtney Love, Thurston Moore, members of MBV, Portishead & more team to cover Marianne Faithfull for new film
Deb Googe, who plays bass in My Bloody Valentine and the Thurston Moore Group, posted a photo on her Instagram on Tuesday of her with Thurston, Courtney Love, PJ Harvey collaborator Rob Ellis and Portishead‘s Adrian Utley in the studio together. Via Stereogum, Deb wrote, “I spent a day in The Kinks studio, covering Marianne Faithfull songs with a band that consisted of Courtney Love, Mr T, Barry Reynolds, Adrian Utley, Ben Christophers and Rob Ellis. As Morrissey should have said: some days are bigger than others.”
We’re not sure who Deb is referring to as Mr T, but this assemblage of cool has our interest piqued. While not in Deb’s pictures, guitarist Barry Reynolds, who was part of the session, is probably best known as a longtime Marianne Faithfull collaborator.
Producer Ben Christophers also posted the same photo, noting that the sessions were “an amazing experience in the merging of music and film,” and tagging artists/filmmakers Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard, who made the 2014 Nick Cave film 20,000 Days on Earth. He also tagged Dirty Three and Bad Seeds member Warren Ellis, who worked on several Faithfull albums over the last 20 years.
Christophers added, “Don’t want to say much more but you’ll find out soon enough.”
“Soon enough” sounds like we won’t have to wait too long to find out what’s going on, but Marianne Faithfull’s life is a ripe subject for a documentary.

In other news, Deb Googe also teased a new record. “I have a new album with a new collaborator! More on that later.”
Always making us wait, this lot. Stay tuned all around.
