Coney Island New Year’s Day Polar Bear Plunge 2025 in pics
2025 is officially upon us, and as usual, the Coney Island Polar Bear Club started off the year with a dip in the Atlantic Ocean. Wednesday’s temperatures reached the lower 50s, but it was cloudy and overcast for most of the afternoon, and the water was freezing cold. That didn’t stop thousands from showing up to join in on the beloved annual tradition, which is currently in its 122nd year. Participants wore bathing suits, matching costumes, inflatable pool floats, New Years glasses and hats, or just their clothes, and a few dogs went in the water too, with lots more people watching from the beach and boardwalk. See pictures below.
Proceeds from the New Year’s Day Plunge go to Coney Island non-profit organizations, including the Alliance for Coney Island, Coney Island History Project, Coney Island YMCA, and the New York Aquarium. Find more details and donate here.
